A Legacy in Motion:
Fuel the Fight for Immigrant Justice
The Immigrant Defense Project is a partner project with the Fund for the City of New York, Inc., a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, and all donations are tax-deductible within the guidelines of U.S. law. FCNY's EIN/Tax ID is 13-2612524.
Nearly thirty years ago, the Immigrant Defense Project was founded to seek justice for all immigrants and to reject the idea that some people are disposable.
In 1996, Congress passed draconian laws that expanded immigration detention and fast-tracked deportations without due process.
In 1997, the Immigrant Defense Project was formed to empower immigrants with information and strategies to fight for their rights.
ICE was created in 2003, vastly compounding abuses against immigrants.
IDP charged up. We expanded legal support and litigation, enhanced training and education, advanced policy interventions, and transformed the public conversation.
These moments in history devastated communities. But they also sparked action.
Today, IDP is rising to meet the moment once again.
